A dining destination just over a mile to the north of Otley, and sister pub to the Queens at Burley-in-Wharfedale. Solid stone walls and wooden floors in the main, with stone flags around the bar, practically all of this pub is taken up by dining tables, but there are some comfortable stools at the bar for the occasional drinker. Near the bar look out for a picture of two pubs, one is the Roebuck, with a man changing the sign to The Spite, whilst higher up is the Travellers Rest being renamed The Malice. Outside is a curved beer patio, built from creamy Yorkshire sandstone, well provided with garden furniture. There is also a small grassed area. At least two Yorkshire cask ales are usually on offer.
This pub uses Autovac.
Historic Interest
Building dates back to 1783, and has been a pub since 1852. The innkeeper's neighbour at that time applied for a licence for the nearby ‘Travellers Inn’, which resulted in a rivalry that lasted 21 years - and is the reason why the pub is known to locals as 'The Spite', and the Travellers Inn gained the name, 'The Malice'.
This Pub serves 1 changing beer and 1 regular beer.
