CAMRA South Cheshire Winter Pub 2018.

This Grade I listed building was rescued from structural decay by Brunning & Price in 2010. It was tastefully refurbished and extended, and reopened in 2011. The historic Cheshire building retains many original features and is maintained to a high standard. There is a small bar area accommodating drinkers with the rest of the building's many rooms used mainly by diners. Toilets are upstairs and accessed via a grand staircase that allows visitors to see even more of the building. The pub, like many of Brunning & Price's establishments, is decorated with vintage posters, photographs, and artefacts. There is outdoor seating in the garden at the front with views of Sandbach Church. A further outdoor space at the rear is more sheltered. A real cider is sometimes offered in summer months. The pub is understandably popular and booking may be needed for dining.

Historic Interest

Grade 1 listed (1950) dating from 1656. Was the residence of the Lords of the Manor of Sandbach. Became a coaching inn in 18c when it was known as the Three Tuns. Further extended in 19C to accommodate coach travellers. The coaching arch is to the right of the main building. Used as a billet for American officers during second World War.

Conversion

This mightily impressive Grade I-listed hall dating from 1656 was once the residence of the lords of the manor of Sandbach. It has been described as a good example of Elizabethan architecture and has wattle and daub walls. It became an inn in C18 with a coaching arch to the right. It has been brought back to life by Brunning & Price, carefully restored, tastefully refurbished and extended, retaining most of its original fittings. There are two wonderful Jacobean carved fireplaces and many historical pictures on the walls.
