Vintage Inn.

This pub is a familiar and distinctive landmark on the main A21 to Hastings, having being built in the style of a Kentish oasthouse. Previously a Beefeater, it is now a Vintage Inns restaurant pub. Spacious and comfortable.

Historic Interest

The original inn was at the north end of the former village green with its pond, when the once former village was called Greenstreet Green. Previously called the Fox and Grapes, this was renamed the Royal Oak sometime in the 19th C. Later extended in the late 19th C, this was owned by Whitbread. A new purpose built building with mock oasthouse was constructed in 1930 on the site of an old brewery house after the opening of the Farnborough bypass in 1927. After 1930, the original building was then known as Middle House and then Round House and is still partly surviving today as the Bombay restaurant - the service road at the back was once a village street lined with cottages. In 1982, the "new" pub was completely rebuilt (along with mock oasthouse) as a Beefeater restaurant (owned by Whitbread). (From 1965 to 1978, the pub was the foundation and focal point for the Orpington Folk Club.)
