This Pub is Permanently Closed
Zen was far more a restaurant rather than a bar.
Historic Interest
The original Nags Head, which was just to the south of the current site, was destroyed in WW2 bombing. In a 1956 planning application the existing use was 'Part licensed premises and bomb demolition site', the licensed premises being a temporary Nags Head that was little more than a shack. Demolition/clearance and replacement with a new pub was approved, the new pub opening in November 1957 as a Watneys pub. The Nags Head had several name changes from 1991 onwards culminating in it becoming Atlantis Bar in 2004 (see Southern Hampshire CAMRA's Hop Press no.57). By 2009 it was Zen Japanese Bar & Restaurant so no longer really a pub, though it was still a pub under planning law.
