The Sun Inn is a typical English village pub and has its origins as a 17th century coaching inn, extended over the years to include a restaurant, enlarged kitchen and five letting bedrooms. It serves the village itself and attracts customers from all round the Penrith area for food and drinks, and we welcome visitors to the north-eastern Lake District from all over the country and overseas.
It is particularly well-placed for those undertaking the famous Coast-to-Coast (C2C) cycle challenge, being around 45 miles from Whitehaven and Workington on the west coast of Cumbria, and for many the end of the first day's cycling.
May close earlier in winter or if there are no customers.
They pride themselves in offering a great range of quality food, fine wines, real ales, value for money and excellent customer service, in a cosy atmosphere. The Sun Inn is a family run free house, and is a sister house to the nearby King's Arms in Stainton.
