A friendly community pub that dates back to the 1860s. The bar features a roaring real fire in winter and is decorated with football memorabilia. The central servery links a comfortable lounge, with displays of local history on the walls, and a dining area where a Nepalese menu is available. There is a large garden for barbecues and outside drinking, and a covered, heated area for smokers.
1861 vintage three-roomed corner local, altered in 1926, which has received little attention over recent years. The main bar has an original counter and bar-back, but the latter has had some post-war work; the fixed seating also looks original and the fireplace is probably 1960s. On the right is an old off-sales hatch still with a '4' over it. At the rear are two rooms both served by hatches to the back of the bar, but apart from a stone Tudor-shaped fireplace in the rear right room there are few other old fittings. The crown bowling green at rear, which was formerly overlooked by a verandah and attractive small timber pavilion, appears to be disused. Closed and boarded up.
Update Jan 2011 - the pub has reopened after extensive repairs and alterations - further information awaited on the extent of the changes
Update 6/11 Reopened but unfortunately the work done prior to reopening has seen the two rooms to the rear opened out and a bar servery put in. The public bar has also been altered and therefore it will need to be removed from the West Midlands Regional Inventory.
