This Pub is Permanently Closed
The Star Hotel traded from 1831 to 1969. It occupied a prominent site on the junction of Parrock Street and Clarence Street, the latter having passed out of existence.
The pub/hotel had been part of the tied estate of Gravesend brewers Russell's, passing to London giant Truman's in 1930 on takeover. Since closure and subsequent demolition the site has been occupied by the Lord Street car park. "We haven't had that spirit (or anything else for that matter) here since 1969."
