This Club is Closed Long Term
This is a club, which means that the bar may be only open to members.
The premises opened in 1920 as a theatre, although film was shown shortly afterwards. It closed briefly in 1923, reopening with films taing a greater prominence, although live theatre performances continued. In 1930 it was converted into a cinema with a sound system installed to allow talkies. The cimema closed in the 1960s and, as in so many cases, it became a bingo club. In 1991 it was converted into a snooker club but closed in 2007, apparently after attempt to convert it into an entertainents venue failed. The fine building remained empty, becoming increasingly derelict until unapproved demolition started in early July 2021, a sad fate.
