This Pub is Permanently Closed
The Sportsman was a small town centre pub that had begun trading by 1871. During its early years it was part of the tied estate of Dartford brewers C N Kidd & Son, whose brewery is just visible behind the pub in the photograph. Ownership passed to Courage when they took over Kidd's in 1937. It remained a Courage house until its closure in 1966. After closure it stood empty for a few years before being converted into Dartford's first Indian restaurant, which it remains today (2020).
