Royal Charlotte Hotel, Northfleet

The Royal Charlotte Hotel traded from 1753 until 1951. It was originally called The Three Pigeons, but changed its name in 1828 to commemorate the first ship launched from the nearby dockyard, the ship being named after George III's wife.

The building shown in the photographs (thanks to www.dover-uk.com for sharing) dated from 1851 and was located some distance from the original building, but in the same road. It is impossible to give an exact location as both pub and road are long gone, but the site was later occupied by Bowater-Scott Paper Mill.

The pub was part of the tied estate of Gravesend brewers Russell's whose brewery was close by. The pub passed to Truman's on takeover in 1930.
