Historic Interest

The pub was swapped from Whitbread to Burtonwood in late 1976. Branch Meeting held here on November 20th 1979. The pub was listed in the selective Greater Manchester Beer Guide in 1980. Branch Meeting held here on February 4th 1981 In May 1981 this was a Burtonwood pub selling Dark Mild and Bitter E, the rarer Light Mild was also available around this time too, until it stopped being brewed in early 1984. It was listed in the 1983 Good Beer Guide. The pub nickname 'The Stump' is believed to be because at one time the landlord was Harry Allen who was the last hangman. There was a large function room/masonic lodge upstairs. At the Branch Meeting on December 8th 1982 the Milds were 51p and Bitter 53p. The pub was listed in the 1985 selective Greater Manchester Beer Guide. Branch Meeting held here on December 8th 1987. The pub was listed in the 1989 Beer in Bolton guide as selling Burtonwood Mild and Bitter (H). The pub was closed in June 1998 after a blaze and demolished in mid 1999.
