When you come across this village you know that you are in rural Suffolk. This large free house is community owned and has a central bar from which up to five real ales and two real ciders are usually available. The pub has three interlinked rooms and a restaurant area. The pub is well supported by locals with food now available daily when open (check website for details). Patio seating areas can be found at the front and rear of the property.

Historic Interest

A report in the Ipswich Journal on Aug-01 1846 when John & Chas Pengrift were the tenants states that: The Race Horse was owned byRobert Fisk, a Brewer who resided at Common Quay, Ipswich. Fisk leased the pub to the Pengrifts on condition that Fisk was the sole supplier. The Pengrifts had received beer from Mr Rogers of Beccles thus according to Fisk were breaking a contract, the court thought otherwise. The agreement in question was drawn up on the 27th Nov 1844. A report in the Ipswich Journal on 04 Jun in 1859 states the: Auction of the Racehorse Public House, Westhall, by order of the Mortgagee under a Power of Sale, now in the occupation of Mr Jesse HILL. A report in the Ipswich Journal on 06 Jul in 1861 states that: Auction of that well-accustomed Public House, the "Race Horse" Inn, Westhall, on behalf of the Estates of the late John TACON of Hinton, Gentleman, Deceased.
