Pack Saddle at Mapledurham, Mapledurham

A large independently owned roadside country pub and restaurant on the Mapledurham Estate, serving local cask ales.

The pub was extensively and smartly refurbished during the 2020 lock down period. The bar was moved back to the lower area to provide a welcoming main bar setting; whereas the upper area is laid out with tables and armchairs for dining in a relaxed lounge-style ambience. The pub maintains an inviting and welcoming environment throughout.

Three of the five hand pumps are in continual use, serving Loddon Hoppit and Rebellion IPA as the two regular ales, with a third changing ale. A fourth changing ale may be added in the summer months. The pub is open for drinks only on Monday and Tuesday evenings, from 5pm

On the other days, a classic pub fayre menu is on offer, with a focus on popular tapas style small plates, as well as main courses, which is proving very popular with customers. Food is served in the upper dining room area as well as in the bar area.

The large enclosed outdoor drinking area and garden is very popular especially with families, although it is in need of some tlc and it is planned to renovate this area during Summer 2026.

Unfortunately, the pub's Community Garden, set up on under-used land in 2018 to involve local people producing the freshest possible salad, fruit and vegetable crops, and which was used in the pub kitchen, was closed by the Mapledurham Estate in Summer 2025, citing health and safety issues. The five colonies of bees producing honey which can be purchased from the bar, are still operating, however.
