Historic Interest
An estate pub built in 1964, the Mill has a heritage interior rated by CAMRA as being of "Some Regional Importance", having not been much altered since construction (www.heritagepubs.org.uk). Probably named for water powered corn mill over the nearby River Leen on Lincoln Street. The river was rerouted in 1962 as part of flood prevention works, which resulted in the stream being diverted from the under the mill. Having been damaged by fire, the mill became home to Greenwood & Co's factory, producing the famous Fetha-lite Pram (www.fetha-lite.co.uk). Opened 1964 PS/B/36/1B/1-2, plans for proposed licence premises, Bagnall Road, Basford for the Home Brewery Co. Ltd by Reginald Cooper and Partners of Russell House, Talbot Street, Nottingham, November 1962. The entrance (north) elevation has a main gable placed off-centre over a projecting window with a built in planting box that serves the public bar. It is a classic ‘L’-shaped plan, with an off-sales entrance at the furthest end (left) from the junction of the ‘L’ (to the right), which has the main entrance. This leads past the lavatories in a low single-storey block extending out further to the right, with the public bar to the left and the lounge behind lounge hall bar straight on. There is an ‘L’-shaped counter, behind which are the beer cellar and case store, with private hall and stairs to the first-floor flat in between. The flat is ‘L’-shaped over the public bar and storage areas, with a paved terrace facing west over beer cellar, three bedrooms to the front and a living area over the boiler and case store – the lounge bar is single storey. This is an unaltered pub of domestic appearance. The entrance is to the right of the long elevation, with two bars forming a typical ‘L’-shaped plan, similar to that of the March Hare. The public bar extends across the front – the off-sales has not been knocked through, although the rear public bar is now a single space. (Elain Harwood / Historic England).
As at November 2017, the freehold for the Mill (NT86718) was held by Trust Inns Limited (Reg. No. 3011034).
