Masons Arms, Dartford

The Masons Arms as pictured opened in around 1907, replacing a much earlier weather-boarded pub that may have been known as The Magpie. The new name was taken from the stonemason's yard that stood next door. The picture suggests that it may have formed part of the Gravesend brewer Russell's tied estate, although this has not been verified. The pub was later tied to London brewers Truman's who took over Russell's in 1930 and it remained a Truman's house until closure in 1989.

The interior of the pub was subsequently demolished, but fortunately the facade was preserved. It is now residential accommodation.
