The lintel above the front entrance shows this stone built Grade II-listed former coaching house dates back from 1682. A unique display of old photographs portray the local social and industrial heritage. A central bar serves the main room and smaller lounge. A contained log-burner in each rooms. Upstairs beamed function room is avialable. There is a large courtyard beer garden to the rear. Local CAMRA Community Pub of the Year 2023. Music plays on Saturday evening(9:00pm) and Sunday afternoon(5:00 to 7:00pm), and the Thursday quiz night are all well attended. Recently (Dec 25) started serving breakfasts (until 12:00), lunch and evening meals Wednesday to Sunday. Plans are a foot to open up the 'Coaching House’ stable block at the rear into a restaurant (April 2026)
Historic Interest
Listed. It has a stone lintel dated 1682 above the main entrance. Much altered and enlarged in 18th C. A squat sandstone building. Coursed sandstone blocks, stone slate roof. T-plan formed by 5-bay front range with rear wing. Two storeys and five 1st-floor windows; doorway at junction of 3rd and 4th bays has chamfered surround. Roof hipped at left end; coped with kneelers at right-hand end; brick chimney on ridge in line with door. Interior: some stop-chamfered beams; otherwise altered.
