This Pub is Permanently Closed
The Markers Retreat began life in 1881, possibly as a beer house. In its early days it was part of the tied estate of Gravesend brewers Walker's, but in 1904 the brewery was sold and ownership would have passed to Charrington's.
It continued as a Charrington house until the early 1980s, when it was sold to Shepherd Neame. The new owners were apparently unable to make a go of it and sadly the pub closed in 1988. It was demolished some time afterwards and the site is now occupied by Church housing.
