This Pub is Permanently Closed

This rambling old inn was built in 1535 as a hunting lodge for Henry VIII. There are 4 bars, 1 restaurant and two function rooms. Most of the Real Ale is to be found in the Seymour Bar at the rear of the hotel. The beer range is reminiscent of a permanent. Beers in 1989 were: Courage Directors Bitter, Eldridge Pope Royal Oak, Everard Tiger, Greene King Abbot Ale, Hall & Woodhouse Best Bitter, Marston Pedigree, Ruddle County, Samuel Smith Old Brewery Bitter, Shepherd Neame Bitter, Theakston Old Peculiar, Wadworth 6X, Young Special, occasional guest beers and a house mild. Westons Cider as well.

Historic Interest

Grade II listing:- C18. Three-storeys. Later stucco rendering. Three camber-headed sash windows with moulded surrounds. Central columned porch with later glazed sides and front. Three-light camber-headed sash windows to right and left; coloured glazing. Parapet. Slate roof; end stacks.
