This Pub is Permanently Closed

The King of the Belgians was a riverside pub a short distance to the east of The Three Daws. Despite this proximity, at one time there were two more pubs that stood between the two referred to: The Old Amsterdam (closed 1915) and The Old Falcon (closed 1939)!

The King of the Belgians began life as The King of Prussia in 1768, but understandably the name was changed in 1914. It continued to trade until 1960 when the towels went up for the last time. The pub was later demolished and the site is now a public open space.

Research has confirmed that The King of the Belgians was a Russell's brewery tied house, passing to Truman's in 1930 on takeover. Thanks to www.dover-uk.com for the archive images.
