This Pub is Permanently Closed

The Ingress Tavern was situated on the main Dartford to Gravesend road and began trading in 1868. There may have been some mischief at work here as an identically named pub had opened in neighbouring Greenhithe three years earlier. The archive images (thanks to www.dover-uk.com for sharing) suggest that, like so many other small pubs in the area, it was a Russell's brewery tied house, and that it came into the hands of Truman, Hanbury and Buxton & Co Ltd upon their acquisition of Russell's in 1930.

After its closure in 1998, the pub was converted into a kebaberie. We may not necessarily be grateful for that, but at least we can be grateful that some of the former pub's fittings have been preserved.
