Under new ownership since May 2019 this is a popular village pub which was rescued from closure and conversion to housing in 2013 by its previous owners. A dining pub, though a good balance is struck between the needs of drinkers and diners. The L-shaped interior features a cosy lounge area, part-flagged, part-carpeted, with a mix of traditional and modern furniture and includes a leather sofa and settles near the counter for drinkers and more traditional tables and chairs with a real fire in winter. A separate dining room occupies one end and a raised seating area is at the other with its own mini library. Guy Fawkes lived in the village after his marriage and there are several related items displayed. The pub is on the Knaresborough Round walking route. Four handpumps serve a regular Black Sheep Best Bitter and three changing Yorkshire ales.
This pub uses Autovac (on one pump only - Black Sheep Best Bitter).
