Originally a thatched building which burned down in the 1870s, the pub was rebuilt in this impressive Victorian style. More recently it has been extended to become the roomy pub that is it today. The public bar to the left has comfortable furnishings, a pool table and TV. The handpumps for the four real ales are also this side. The lounge is mainly set out for dining, but also has a bar with a helpful blackboard to show the real ales available.
The pub was acquired from Greene King in 2012, they regularly serve Greene King IPA and three changing guest beers mainly from micros, including local suppliers and a range of ciders from Lilley’s. The pub hosts darts, pool and pétanque teams. At the very heart of the community, its beer festival and other events raise funds for local good causes. Monday & Tuesday evening food is Chippie, eat in or take away, with a more extensive menu on other days.
Other points of interest include the historic “Off Sales" door with a serving hatch in the entrance hall, and the small lending library behind the saloon bar.
The pub changed hands in December 2023.
This Pub serves 3 changing beers and 1 regular beer.
