This one bar pub re-opened as the Chalk Hare in October 2025 having been closed for a year. Approached from the road by some steep steps, there is a large bar area spreading across the front. This is in three sections, and has several comfortable area in which to drink. Large screens show sport but this is not intrusive. At the back of the pub is the large open restaurnt area. Here a variety of food is served. This is of good quality and value, and comes in large portions. Two menus are featured. One has traditional English food including fish and chips, and burgers. The other is an Indian menu with a good choice of dishes. Dogs are welcome in the bar area. Outside there is a good sized garden The pub was originally a Courage pub called the Hand in Hand, becoming the Box Tree on 30 June 2011; it changed its name in November 2011 to the Tree on Box Hill to stop confusion with a restaurant in Yorkshire!
