Now run by the Luddite Brewing company, the Calder Vale Hotel has three large ground floor rooms, comprising of the main bar, tap and commercial rooms plus an upstairs bar. All have been tastefully renovated to restore its Victorian splendour. Large log-burners provide a toasty, warm environment when it's chilly outside and, when the weather is set fair, there is a large, sunny beer garden to the rear.
There's a 6 barrel microbrewery on the premises, the pub operating as the brewery tap. Alongside Luddite ales, (which not surprisingly often include "Smashing" in their names) other local small breweries and distillers are always on offer. The Calder Vale has a strict "Yorkshire first" policy and will not stock 'big beer' brands or craft beer now owned by 'big beer'. Bar snacks, such as locally made pork pies are usually available.
Well-behaved dogs are always welcome and fresh water bowls and doggie-treats are provided.
Normally closed on Monday & Tuesday except bank holiday Mondays open 12-10.
During the re-opening period after the CoVid outbreak, pub and garden opening times were reduced to Fri, Sat and Sun.
