One of the oldest pubs in town (dating from the 17th or 18th century) which is now located within the Guineas shopping arcade. This area of town was once a maze of lanes known as the Rookery.
Live music every 3rd Sunday by Dennis Stratton (Iron Maiden) and Dave Edwards (Manfred Mann) 6-8pm
Historic Interest
Also listed at Market Place (1855 + 1869 + 1874) A cock-pit existed in this pub at least as late as 1767 & it's said that its remnants can still be seen in the cellar. Legend has it that a tunnel ran from the pub to King Charles's palace & was used by the monarch to travel between the two buildings.
