This Pub is Closed Long Term
Old brewer’s house located close to the former historic brewery with a large main bar area and various more intimate spaces. Alongside beers that are mainly brewed locally is an extensive food menu with home-produced fare. Themed food nights, home-made pickled eggs and bar snacks are offered. There are great views of the River Orwell through a bay window in the bar, despite new sea defences being added. Regular live music plays. Two private function rooms are available and there is a secluded garden.
Historic Interest
The building was also once used as a residence for brewers. It's also known to have been used at one time as a brothel. Opened by Tolly Cobbold management buyout when opened. Subsequently became part of Ridleys estate when brewery operations merged in 2002. Ridleys sold out to Greene King in 2005. Brewery Tap became part of the GK estate from 2005 to 2008 whilst the adjacent (and increasingly derelict) Victorian brewery building was owned by private investors.
