Nestling in a corner of the market square the inn has been serving ale since it was first built in 1278. A Grade II listed gem, it is well kept and comfortably furnished and is popular with locals and tourists alike; it also has a resident ghost. Three drinking and dining areas include a small cosy snug and a larger bar with open fires and good value beers. Thai food is served in the restaurant area Tuesday to Saturday and can also be ordered for takeaway. The ancient Roman site of Aldborough (Isurium) is nearby.
