A famous folk club in the 1970s and 80s, the pub was originally the White Lion, and dates back to the 18C. It is also the venue for the founding meeting of the Norwich and Norfolk (now Norwich & District) branch of CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale.
The Jacquard Club was started by Albert and John Cooper in the basement of the Mischief Tavern, and moved to the White Lion in 1971, where it was the centre of Norwich independent music for over 20 years.
The meeting founding Norwich CAMRA was held on September 29, 1975, and attended by 130 people, with 10 casks of real ale brought in specially from Suffolk!
