A popular restaurant pub with a split level bar.

The lion's head figure on the outside wall is said to be the figurehead taken from a Dutch ship captured at the Battle of Sole Bay in 1672, though it has also been suggested it came from a vessel wrecked off Benacre in about 1740.

Parts of the building date from the late 16th century, with an early 19th century wing to the right.

Note that cash is not accepted here.

Historic Interest

According to the 1904 Woodbridge licensing records, the Lion's license was issued in 1803. A notice in the Suffolk Chronicle** on May-01 in 1813 records the death at an advanced age of William GROOM of this Inn. Parts of the building date from the late 16th century, with an early 19th century wing to the right. A Victorian brewery was also located here.
