This Pub is Permanently Closed

Lounge bar with adjoining games room. A split level drinking area extends up steps to a large beer garden. The building dates from the 1510, according to Alfred Hedges' 1976 book, "Inns & Inn Signs of Norfolk & Suffolk". Found closed & for sale when visited in May 2013.

Historic Interest

A report in the Ipswich Journal**** in 06 July 1833 states that : James Wright, Wm. Jessop, James Watson, Lionel Nichols & George Moor, were indicted for stealing from the dwelling house of John OAKLEY, of Framlingham, Innkeeper a quantity of rum, rum shrub, Burton Ale & other articles (after 3 hours) the prosecutor was unable to shed that any of the articles had been in their possession - Acquitted. A report in the Ipswich Journal** on Mar-15 in 1845 when Mr Brunning was the landlord states that he was "witness to the theft of 11yards of drabbit." (drabbit is a coarse yellow linen).
