Reopened by the Mountain Pub Company in April 2024, this former Wetherspoons pub now offers a range of up to seven cask beers at competitive prices from a mix of local and national breweries. Only the smartly refurbished downstairs bar is currently in use, which features numerous TV screens; during the day these may show sports or music videos, but at low volume. Food is limited to toast and various cakes, along with a range of hot beverages.
Originally known as the New Inn, created in 1728 within a farm. It was replaced by the current imposing building in 1935, which has undergone many internal changes over the years, the most dramatic of which was for its new role as a JD Wetherspoon house in 2011. However, the internal wood panelling has remained largely intact. Some of the many information boards installed then, describing local history and famous people from Todmorden, still remain.
Wheelchair access via the side door is to the ground floor only.
CAMRA discount on cask pints only, please ask at the bar.
NB - on weekdays, last orders may be called around 1020pm.
Historic Interest
The long history of these premises dates from 1728, when John and Tamar Fielden opened a hostelry here called the New Inn. It was later renamed The White Hart. In the early 1800s, a ‘Court of Petty Sessions’ was established at the inn. The court was reached by a flight of steps on the outside of the building. In 1935, the old White Hart was replaced by the present mock Tudor-style building.
This Pub serves 2 changing beers and 6 regular beers.
