This Pub is Permanently Closed
The Whitehill Tavern was situated on the Kings Farm estate, to the south of the town centre. It is known to have been trading as a beer house in 1943, and to have been awarded a full licence in 1947. The older photo, dating from the 1950s (thanks to www.dover-kent.com for sharing), indicates that it was part of the Truman's tied estate. It closed in 2009 and was converted into a supermarket. The area is now virtually devoid of public houses.
The building pictured appears to date from no earlier than the mid-20th century and it seems likely that it replaced a more modest establishment, probably on the same site or nearby. There is a reference to the pub in a press cutting from 1867, and it may be that the pub was rebuilt between 1943 and 1947, with the full licence being granted to the newer and grander building. The (earlier?) pub is known to have been part of the Russell’s brewery tied estate and would have passed to Truman’s on takeover in 1930.
