This Pub is Permanently Closed

The Lion was a small street corner local on the edge of the town centre that traded from 1842 until 2000, when it closed and was converted into residential accommodation. With a nod to history it now bears the name 'Lion Court'.

It had been part of the tied estate of Gravesend brewers Walkers, who were located in nearby Wellington Street. Walkers had acquired the pub from (appropriately enough) the Lion Brewery in Lambeth, but in 1904 the pub would have found its way into the hands of Charringtons following their takeover of Walkers.

The pub ended its days free of tie but by then its popularity had waned, and the Lion roared no more.
