A modernised Cotswold stone pub, set back from the High Street in Stonehouse.

The entrance porch leads into the pub, with a large seating area to the left divided into two sections. Large west-facing windows provide plenty of natural light. The rear section is intended to become a restaurant when food service is introduced. To the right is the smaller main bar.

To the rear of both rooms are the toilets and the former skittle alley, now home to darts boards and pool tables, together with its own bar.

Out front you will find a generous amount of picnic benches with umbrellas that make for relaxed alfresco drinking.

The Globe Inn reopened on 29 May 2026 following a short closure. The current licensee plans to introduce food and interactive darts.

***** Opening times correct as of 22 July 2026 *****

Historic Interest

History: The present Cotswold stone building was erected in 1806. The site is believed to have been associated with Stonehouse's historic fairs, following the grant of a royal charter in 1683, and local historians suggest that a fairs barn once stood here. The Green in front of the inn was the traditional venue for these fairs, where cattle and cheese were important commodities. The Globe is recorded as an inn by 1812 and has remained one of the town's principal public houses since. The arrival of the Great Western Railway in 1845 transformed the setting of the Globe, with the railway and High Street bridge constructed immediately to its North. Originally an alehouse owned by Godsell & Sons' Salmon Springs Brewery of Stroud, it later passed through several brewery owners before becoming part of the Stonegate estate. Briefly renamed The Goat in 2025 during an attempted relaunch, it soon reverted to its historic name, The Globe Inn.
