CAMRA Pub of the year 2018. The pub enjoys an isolated position in the Forest of Dean enjoying panoramic views over the surrounding woodlands. Built in the early 1800s as a miners pub - there are mine shafts within a half-mile radius. Despite some renovation and extensions, it still retains a basic traditional atmosphere. A patio area, seating 50, was created in 1989 to commemorate 50 years of service at the inn by the same family. The pub is a favourite with bikers, hikers, cavers and drinkers. The pub contains a well which was, until quite recently, used for drinking water. There are extensive facilities for children, including special menus and play area, though watch out for the pool next to the car park. Family meals are always available. Local brass bands play on Sundays in the summer with other musical events in the winter months.
This Pub serves 3 changing beers and 0 regular beers.
