  • Community Owned

Templehall started life as part of the Temple Dairy back in 1812 and from March 2025 is a community-owned village hotel run by enthusiastic tenants. As it is located on the St Cuthbert's Way and close to other paths it is popular with walkers.

On the upper level, accessed from the main road entrance, is the Kale lounge bar, which doubles as a dining room and cafe. This is a large open plan room which overlooks the attractive split level garden. It is furnished with a mix of dining tables and comfy chairs and has a real fire at one end and the bar at the other.

On the lower level is a small snug bar which reopened on 22nd June 2025.

NOTE: Some details may change as the new tenants and community owners settle in to running the pub.

Year Purchased April 2025.

In Aug 2024 the Morebattle Community Hub and Public House Limited group (MCHPHL) launched a campaign to purchase the freehold of the pub. In Dec 2024 they received a grant of £200,000 from the Scottish Land Fund and South of Scotland Enterprise, and they launched a community share scheme. In Mar 2025 they completed the purchase. In Apr 2025 they were preparing for tenants to reopen the pub, and in late May 2025 they reopened the pub.
