Extended small cottage-style pub in the old part of Whiston, with parts of the building dating back more than 500 years. Opened as a pub in 1891. Recently refurbished, the interior has several small enclaves. There are large gardens at the back and a patio area in front. The car park is across the road. Popular with both drinkers and diners, however it is now more of an eatery. There is a small area for drinkers beside the bar, otherwise the extensive outside areas can be used for drinking only. Recently dogs have been allowed in as long as they're restricted to the slate floor areas. The nearby parish church and stocks are worth visiting. Handy for Ulley Country Park. Beer prices are expensive for the area, though a discount off pints has been introduced for card carrying CAMRA members.
