This Pub is Permanently Closed
Demolished as part of an area redevelopment in 1978, there is housing now on the site. The licence was transferred to the new Oxleathers public house.
Historic Interest
A brewery at this site was occupied by members of the Corfield family. The last recorded dates of individual occupiers are Richard Corfield in 1884, Henry Corfield 1898, Mrs Catherine Corfield in 1920. In 1881 the licensee was Elijah Smith and there is no mention of brewing in the census returns for that year, although that is not conclusive evidence. The pub is recorded as a home brew pub in the Royal Commission Report on Arsenic in Beer in 1901.
