A 17th century inn which is popular with its local clientele. Having been purchased by the current owners in December 2016,
The furnishing has a rustic theme and the result is a modern and comfortable place to linger. The internal space has been opened out from the separate bars that used to be, but their use is still clearly identifiable. The “Gun Room” is a rather nice bar with some sofas and a log burning stove helping to create its relaxing atmosphere. Regular dining happens in the other area which used to be the public bar. It’s furnished in the same style as the Gun Room and has the stove set into the wall between them. There’s also another room to the rear of the pub which is more of a function room.!
Historic Interest
From the window of the pub you can see a rare example of a bull ring in the middle of the road (looking towards the War Memorial). This is now classed as a scheduled ancient monument, and was used for the sport of bull baiting until the practice was banned in 1835.
This Pub serves no changing beers and 2 regular beers.
