This Pub is Permanently Closed
The Gipsy Moth was situated adjacent to a bowling alley and other food outlets just off the Purley Way (A23). More interestingly it was opposite the site of the Croydon Airport, with a De Haviland Heron from the 1950's outside the airport buildings; the control tower is open as a visitor attraction on the first Sunday of each month. The pub was run by Orchid as part of its carvery chain and advertised food all day. It was also open 7-9am for breakfast (8-10 Sun). It had a large bar area, much of which was laid out for dining, although there was also a pool table and TV to one side. The guest beer was from the Greene King stable. Unfortunately it was not possible to arrive by air, but buses 119 & 289 avoided the use of the large car park. Planning application 17/03256/FUL requesting demolition was approved on 25 January 2018.
