Historic Interest
The original hotel dated from at least 1822, listed in Bagshaw's Directory of 1850, acquired by West Cheshire Brewery in 1897 and rebuilt about that time. The photo looking towards the hotel from the pier is from about 1910 and is on an information display at the site of New Ferry pier. The hotel had its own bowling green and the first New Ferry Park was behind. The tower was damaged by a storm in the 1920s and lost its dome. It continued to trade into the 1960s and was taken on by RAOB (Buffalos) as a club until the late 70s and had live music every Saturday night. Later demolished. The Derwent Lodge retirement home was erected on the site.
