A lively town centre local in a pedestrian shopping area in the centre of New Ferry. A refurbishment in 2017 has given this long established pub a clean modern appearance while retaining a very traditional layout and atmosphere. Free car park nearby on Grove Street accessible from New Chester Road. Look out for Fabio, the much loved occasional pub cat.
Historic Interest
Dating back to at least 1878, a West Cheshire Brewery pub. Acquired by Thwaites in the 1970s and described in 1980 as a pleasant small friendly local with a thriving jug and bottle trade selling Thwaites Best Mild and Bitter by handpump. The black & white photos were taken in 1981 when the pub was a Thwaites tenancy and a regular Good Beer Guide entry. Of the nine pubs in New Ferry in the 1970s, only the Cleveland survives. The pub survived a nearby explosion on the evening of 25th March 2017 and needed structural repairs before reopening six months later.
