Up until 1988, the neighbouring pub was The Acorn. At the request of a local drinker, this became the chosen name when this highly popular Wetherspoon pub first opened in 1998. Inside is a deep open plan interior with a glass dome in the roof towards the rear. Historic pictures of Lichfield adorn the walls. Up to six guest ales are served alongside the regular ones, and a choice of four ciders are available from polyboxes, some of which may be real.
