This Pub is Permanently Closed
Parts of the pub date from the 15th cent. with a carriage arch providing a reminder of earlier (coaching) times. Further extensions & renovations were carried out in 1826 & the present brick front (Woolpit red bricks) was added about then. Occasionally open on Sunday eve for quiz nights.

Historic Interest
A report in the Ipswich Journal** on 13 Sep in 1800 states that : "Woolpit Horse Fair - Susan HAZLEWOOD at the Ship; Ambrose TAYLOR at the Crown & Samuel WATERS at the Swan". A report in the Ipswich Journal** on 02 Aug in 1843 states that : "To be let, The Swan Commercial Hotel, Woolpit, in consequence of the present proprietor retiring from the public business. Apply to Mr PARKER, on the premises". A report in the Ipswich Journal*** in Feb 1850 states that : "Married on the 13th February, Mr W B Parker, son of Mr Parker, late of the Swan Hotel, Woolpit, to Miss Susan Meekings, both of Stowmarket". In 1888 is listed as the headquarters of the Cyclist Touring Club & the Forester's court is held on first Tuesday in each month.
