On-site Tollgate Brewery tap (opened 2020) in a converted former dairy shed. The single rectangular room has a wood-topped bar counter, with an unusual part-engraved 'log end' front, close to the entrance, and features exposed joists and rafters, a concrete floor with a lengthways step up to some retained stalls with concrete partitions, plus a wood-burning stove. There is a bottle shop at the end opposite the bar.
A small barn on the south-western side of the courtyard, the Cow Shed, provides a covered drinking area. More recently (2021), a pizza oven is in the restored barn on the south-eastern side, the Threshing Bar, which also offers additional covered seating.
There is wheelchair access to most of the premises, including the bar, but there are no adapted WCs.
The premises are part of the National Trust Calke Abbey Estate, but located just outside Calke Park itself. Obviously cyclists and walkers are welcome!
The National Trust own the nearby Southwood House Farm (with 7 double/twin bedrooms) which is available for hire.
This Pub serves 3 changing beers (Tollgate beers, often a fourth in summer.) and 1 regular beer.
