This pub is mentioned in Bagshaw's Directory of 1846 when there were three inns and four beer houses to quench the thirst of the local population of 1271 (compared with about 700 today). It is a steeply roofed, cream painted pub on the main street with an interesting building to its side.
Today it is mainly a food pub and is handily located for walks into Calke Park. The bar is located on the ground floor where there is a small amount of seating and a cosy fireplace area, sadly with a gas fire.. The main room is above, where the food is normally served. Throughout the decoration is based on polished light coloured wood. There is a large outside area at the rear of the pub slightly enclosed.
Reopened in June 2025 after a reported £315,000 refurbishment.
This Pub serves 2 changing beers (Theakston other) and 2 regular beers.
