Audio Description

For the second year running, a beer from Lynn brewery has been named Champion Bottle Conditioned Beer of Norfolk

Southgates Stout, a 4.7 per cent oatmeal stout, came out on top from the 65 entries.

Brewers Jason and Claire said: “We are absolutely delighted. This recognition means a great deal to us, particularly following our 2025 win for Lynn Ferry Bitter, and we’re incredibly proud that our beers continue to resonate with CAMRA judges and local beer lovers alike. We are hugely grateful to our local CAMRA group for its continued efforts in championing real ale and supporting small independent breweries like ours.”

Norfolk Taste Panel chair Alan Edwards said: “Lynn brewery is a fine example of the growing band of quality small brewers in Norfolk. Its beers have shown to be both flavoursome and consistent.

“Bottle-conditioned beers are a first-rate alternative to cask ales if the pub does not have the turnover for it. And for home consumption it brings the pub to your parlour. Stouts are resurgent now and Southgates is both a great introduction to the style and a go-to brew for the cognoscenti.”

The beer was described by the judges as having, “coffee and treacle aromas. Roast and oatmeal to the fore with cherry sourness and blackcurrant notes masked by a fruity sweet maltiness.”

Lynn brewery is an independent, family-owned brewery based in King’s Lynn, making small-batch, hand-bottled craft beer.

It is passionately local, the grain used comes from a local malting group and all the beers are inspired by, and named after, the people and places of Lynn.

All bottle labels feature the Custom House and statue of George Vancouver, ship captain and explorer from Lynn.
