Historic Interest
Dating from at least 1878, a Birkenhead Brewery pub named after Brunel's ship the Great Eastern which was beached nearby for dismantling. Serving Whitbread beer until the early 1980s. Became a Banks's pub in the 1980s serving Banks's Mild and Bitter. Described in 1990 as having a lounge like a 'Great Eastern' museum. Closed by 2007 and demolished in 2010, then redeveloped as housing.
