The oldest pub in Brixton. Reopened in December 2015 by Parched Pubs Ltd following closure in September by the previous owner. No real ales available. Local craft keg and bottled beers.
The Pub is an attractive, friendly, free-of-tie establishment with large windows and skylights, soft lighting and a large rear patio.
Pub name was changed to QH 144 from 2012 to 2015 then back to the Queen's Head.
Formerly Queen's Head; previously Far Side, Z Bud, Galleons and originally New Queen's Head.
Lease taken over by Recobble Ltd in July 2018.
Sep 2023 planning application submitted, to change upper floors to residential.
24 January 2024, closed, with apologetic notice in expectation of reopening sometime.
Upstairs conversion approved 22 May; applicant a Mr Benny Hoffman, pub referred to as Farside Bar and Kitchen. Conditions linked to to preserving the character and appearance of the Grade II listed host building (Policy Q20 of the Lambeth Local Plan (2021)).
Historic Interest
Grade II listing:- Building of Regency appearance with alterations. Three storeys; 2 windows which are canted oriels running through 2 upper floors and having wood moulded and dentilled cornices and sash windows. Another central window on second floor. Painted brick with parapet. Late C19 ground floor public house front with panelled stallrisers but modern glazing. Included for group value.
