This Pub is Permanently Closed

This was one of the few traditional pubs that remained in the centre of Guildford, but closed in October 2020 when the manager left the pub.

It was then sold by Punch Taverns in March 2021 and despite being locally listed, in October 2023 the pub was demolished. There are now plans to replace it with a block of 5 flats incorporating a wine bar on the ground floor of the new building.

Planning approval 22/P/00569 | Proposed four-storey building comprising of a commercial component on the ground floor (wine bar - use class Sui Generis) and five flats above, following demolition of the existing Robin Hood pub. Approved on appeal 01 Dec 2022

Historic Interest

Opened in 1865 on the edge of the new Charlottville Estate. In 1863 Dr. Sells sold the site of the Robin Hood to William Pimm and John Engall. Here the public house was soon built as well as a row of cottages behind it known as Pimm1s Cottages. William Pimm leased the Robin Hood to the Friary Brewery in 1863 and they purchased the freehold in 1896. the first occupant of the Robin Hood was James Balchin. . The pub was left isolated in 1969 when the adjoining terraces of small cottages were demolished for a new road scheme.
